Attendance and absence

What to do when your child is ill or away

✔ Checked: 25.9.2026

Every day counts

Regular, punctual attendance matters. The office checks attendance and punctuality every week. The local authority's Education Welfare Officer also checks our attendance and supports families who need help.

If your child is ill

Keep your child at home if they are unwell in the morning. They will feel better sooner, and the other children stay well.

Tell us before 9:05 on the day. Ring the office on 01248 714478, or report the absence in MyChildAtSchool.

If your child has not arrived by 9:05 and we have not heard from you, we will contact you to ask why.

Sickness and diarrhoea: 48 hours

Keep your child at home for 48 hours after the last episode. It is the last episode that counts, not the first. This is Public Health Wales guidance, and it stops a bug spreading through a class.

Time off in term time

Ask through MyChildAtSchool, at least two weeks before the first day away for a holiday, with a brief reason. Our step-by-step guide shows you how: Ask for time off school in term time.

Medical appointments

Report these in MyChildAtSchool too, the same way.
