Dear Parents and Carers,
Every child from Reception to Year 6 is entitled to a free school lunch. Many families do not realise they could also receive extra help with school costs. If you receive one of the benefits below, you could get £125 a year for each child through the School Essentials Grant, and the school will receive extra funding to support your child's learning.
What the grant is for
The Council pays the grant straight into your bank account. You can spend it on:
- school uniform, coats and shoes
- PE kit and trainers
- uniform for clubs such as Scouts, sport or dance
- school bags, stationery and waterproofs for trips
Who can apply
You can apply if you receive any of the following:
- Universal Credit, with net earnings of £7,400 a year or less
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Guarantee element of Pension Credit
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
How to apply
Fill in the online form on the Isle of Anglesey County Council School Essentials Grant page, or ring the Council on 01248 750057. One form covers all your children. The Council takes up to 28 days to process a claim, so the sooner the better. The Welsh Government has more information: Get help with school costs.
If you have received the grant before and your circumstances have not changed, you do not need to apply again. Children who have just started in Reception need a new form.
Every application is confidential, and no one in your child's class will know. If you are not sure whether you qualify, apply anyway - the Council will check. Please contact the school if you would like help with the form.
Thank you for your support.
